It’s a period of time where communication is vital to our mental health, yet there’s a decrease of it among family and friends. Individuals cannot learn from one another’s experiences and help each other through their struggles.
This shift to virtual communication is abnormal for humans, so, we see numerous people struggling with this sudden adjustment. According to a study published in The Lancet, people in self-isolation experienced an increase in psychological symptoms such as depression, emotional exhaustion, and frequent mood swings. These individuals feel as if they have no one to lean on because of their separation from relatives and family.
Though we can still talk to our loved ones through our phones, hearing their voices is not the same as seeing them. This is what feels foreign to most individuals when it comes to virtual communication. However, we can adapt to these changes by using various social platforms and see our family members.
Here are just a few of these platforms:
Zoom (We use this!)
Google Meet (We use this too!)
Meet Now (On Windows Devices)
GoToMeeting (professional online meetings)
FaceTime (On IOS Devices)
Sesame (for students)
All of the communication platforms mentioned above are user-friendly and easy to navigate through. I’ve also included hyperlinks to the Google Chrome Web Store and their direct websites to download these apps. If you’re looking for a more professional way to communicate with colleagues, Zoom, GoToMeeting, Skype are a few of the best options for presenting. They even have features for annotating and allowing control to share your mouse pad. Though you are not technically face-to-face, you can still stay connected with peers and family through these apps. Make sure to take advantage of them to spend leisurely and quality time with your family.
