Bursts of Light: Raven

Exhausting. Empty. Meaningless. We are overwhelmed by these negative feelings, and nothing seems to fill that space. It’s like a dark void, and we get sucked in, thinking we may never get out. Then, holes open in the dark void, letting in pure, bright light. The warmth fills us up, drowning out the darkness, pumping adrenaline throughout our bodies, and putting a genuine smile on our faces.

These bursts of light can come from the smallest joys in life, and one of these joys is volunteering. Numerous organizations created online alternatives for people of all ages. Engaging in these opportunities will allow you to make a meaningful impact, do something for others, for the world, and for yourself.

Here are some exciting opportunities I found:

The Climate Museum is working to encourage people to take action on the climate crisis. As a volunteer, you will spread the word about their cause. (ex: through social media) Your contributions will spread awareness and inspire others to join the fight against climate change.

The UNV has a broad variety of online opportunities. They have writing, art, translation, research, outreach, event organization, and so much more. In fact, people from all over the world volunteer for the UNV. You can become a volunteer too and make a difference in your own way.

Art For Others (AFO) is a youth organization making art to spread positivity and fight mental health issues. They have a theme every month and assign fun art projects to members. For example, they had members make art such as paintings, jewelry, and music with autumn colors. AFO then donated these pieces to children in need in Haiti. Make sure to check out their Instagram!

  • OperASIAN OperASIAN is all about raising advocacy, social issues, empowerment, and stigmatized topics. Members can compose articles, start a chapter of OperASIAN, and compete in a social project competition. The competition has many benefits for the winner, like getting recognition, awards, and mentors.

I hope these opportunities bring some light and purpose during these times. Volunteer for any cause that interests you, and don’t be hesitant to tackle something new! If you prefer to do something on your own, like a virtual food drive for the homeless, you can do that too. Take advantage of these simple joys, and before you know it, your void will fill up with light.
