Many students, including yourself, might find teachers intimidating, but they are more fun than they might seem. They have a lot of wisdom to offer and can even feel like a parent sometimes. Also, teachers genuinely want to understand their students better and make your class experience meaningful.
What To Talk About
Vacation/Weekend plans
Current Day events
Ask about their experiences with school (ex: joining clubs, finding a career that you like, etc.)
Share something personal if you feel comfortable

Smaller ways to interact
saying hi and bye
giving cards in person or even through email
asking about how they are
Say “thank you” or “have a great day” (be appreciative)
You can have these side conversations before class which can be fun. Even if it’s just those 5-10 minutes it can be very impactful and help you make a good impression on your teacher.
In fact, teachers tend to be more lenient when their student has a friendly personality. Also, as they get to know you on a personal level and not just as a student, it’ll be helpful when it’s time for college. For example, they will be able to write you a great teacher recommendation letter.

Not only will this help with recommendation letters, it will also be easier for you to ask questions about the subject because you will have more comfortable lessons. The more you socialize, the more comfortable you will be with your teacher. Therefore, you will have a more positive perspective of the class. As an added bonus, you will also have a trustworthy person to talk to at school when you struggle with school or need mental support, in general.
